Nestlé Waters realizes the importance of reducing its environmental footprint through recycling and other reuse activities. Here are a few facts about plastic water bottles:
• Our second generation Eco-Shape bottle uses 25 percent less plastic than the previous Eco-Shape bottle and 60 percent less than our original half liter PET bottle.
• PET plastic water bottles are fully recyclable and are included in Oregon's Bottle Bill. Each bottle can be redeemed for 5 cents.
• Consumers in urban areas can also recycle plastic bottles as part of their curbside programs. In the Portland Metro region, over 50,000 tons of plastic were recycled in 2010. (Source: http://www.deq.state.or.us/lq/pubs/docs/sw/2010MRWGRatesReport.pdf).
• Recycling a ton of plastic bottles saves approximately 3.8 barrels of oil. Recycling one pound of PET plastic bottles saves approximately 12,000 BTUs of energy. In addition, using recycled materials uses 2/3 less energy than using raw (virgin) materials.

• Plastic for PET bottles comes from a by-product of the oil refinery process. So long as people are making oil for heating, transportation and other purposes, the basic PET ingredient will be there anyway. People are not drilling oil to make bottles for water, ketchup, Coca-Cola or the hundreds of other household products that are packaged in plastic containers.
